PRO DOWN LOAD - READ.ME - Version 3, Release 1.6
---------------------------
This file contains information about last minute changes to PDL or other
important user information. It will also get you started if you do not have
time to read the PDL.DOC file.
What's New
----------
PDL316 is a major update that incorporates changes made to the Prodigy service
on 10/01/92. All functions that were previously available in PDL315 are
included in PDL316. Since you may not have upgraded your software to PDL315, the
following annotates the new features for that version.
PDL315 new features:
- Market Close pages for most actives on NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ
- Mutual Fund summary page
- Market Update section summary
- Enhanced Vacation mode for multiprocessing under Windows or OS/2 2.0
- Next Program Call to automatically run a program after the download
Refer to the PDL.DOC file to for details on how to use the new features.
PDL316 new features:
- Conversion of new Quote Check data format back to the old format (optional)
- Support for Quote Track lists stored on your hard disk (TYPE L)
- Dynamic conversion of PDL.IN files to Quote Track lists (PDL AUTOTRAK)
You may begin to use the new version of PDL immediately and it will
access the new Quote Check and Quote Track functions of Prodigy. During
the peroid prior to October 1 PDL will generate a jump to NEW QCHECK
which is the Prodigy test version. On October 1 this jump will change
back to QUOTE CHECK and will remain that way. BE SURE THAT YOUR SYSTEM
CLOCK IS SET TO THE CORRECT DATE AND TIME.
Updates are distributed on the FlexSoft BBS, 510-829-2293, for normal
updates or when Prodigy makes changes to the service. Refer to the Prodigy Money
Talk Bulletin Board under topic Other Investments - note PDL UPDATE for
announcements on availability of updates.
Installing PDL
--------------
This version of PDL requires a new registration code. You can obtain the
code by contacting FlexSoft by mail or through the FlexSoft BBS.
It is best to install PDL in a new directory and not in the same directory
as a previous version. This allows you to copy over your own PDL.IN file
and prevents over writing the configuration information.
PDL is supplied in the .ZIP format and must be "unzipped" using the PKUNZIP
program. The PDL316 directory should contain the following files:
PDL.EXE PDLMIS.COM PDLSCHED.CTL
PDLKEY.COM PDLCONF.EXE REGISTER.DOC
PDL.DOC PDLCONF.HLP NEW2OLD.COM
PDL.IN READ.ME
PDLRUN.BXT PDLSCHED.COM
**PDLRUN.BXT is a template file used to create the PDLRUN.BAT file. Do not
alter this file or the configuration program may not operate correctly.
*NOTE: This version contains a data conversion program that converts
the new Quote Check data format back to the old format. This was
included to make PDL compatible with data extraction programs such as
PML or PTT. If you do not want the data converted back to the old
format, remove the line "new2old" from the PDLRUN.BAT file. If you
choose to remove this line, the PDL.OUT file will be written out in the
new Quote Check format and will NOT be compatible with PML or PTT.
Configuring PDL
---------------
PDLCONF.EXE
Version 3.1.6 of PDL contains a configuration program to assist you in building
the PDL.CNF and PDLRUN.BAT files. These two files are necessary to properly
start and run the PDL program. The program will attempt to collect information
from a variety of sources and then provide you with a convenient, menu driven
method of specifying additional parameters or changing the automatic ones. Once
the information is correct, select the Update Parameter Files option to save the
configuration and build the PDLRUN.BAT file. Be sure to accept each
configuration screen with the F10 key or some information may be lost.
The configuration program is started by typing PDLCONF at the DOS prompt.
Running PDL
-----------
The PDL program is started by typing PDLRUN at the DOS prompt.
PDL.IN
------
The input file (PDL.IN) can be created by using any ASCII editor (such as EDLIN)
to build the ticker list. The list format is "TYPE TICKER" where TYPE is S, F,
B, L, or X and TICKER is the symbol name (5 characters maximum). Do not use a
word processor to build the PDL.IN file unless you know for sure that it
doesn't put special characters in the file.
If you have not registered PDL it will not be able to retrieve the Market Close
pages, Market Update summary, PDL AUTOTRAK, Quote Track lists or the QRQ30 list.
For more detailed information, refer to the PDL.DOC file.
